Workforce Development Systems

Workforce Development Systems
Workforce Development Systems are networks of agencies in each county working together to provide convenient access to employment, education, training, and economic development services to the local community. Each system is made up of a full service One-Stop Center and satellite locations throughout the county. 43 Mid-Hudson libraries have partnered with county workforce development systems to act as special satellite locations, called Library Workforce Centers.

One-Stop Centers
One -Stop Centers are physical locations in each county where coordinated employment, education, training, and economic development services are available to the local community. These centers are often referred to as "malls of service" since customers have access to a variety of different services in "one stop", just as they would have access to a number of different products while shopping at the local mall. A visit to the local One-Stop Center brings an individual in touch with a variety of agencies, offering different resources, in a single location.

One-Stop Center services are geared to job seekers and employers, and are broken down into three levels: core (those services available to everyone), intensive (those services available to individuals who meet certain requirements), and training (services available only to those who have been through core and intensive, but need additional help) The chart below shows services typically available at each One-Stop Center location.

Since each county in the Mid-Hudson region has its own Center, there is some variation among the services and agencies available at each location. For specific information about each center and the services offered, follow the county links below.

Satellite Locations
Satellite locations have partnered with the local One-Stop Center to offer convenient access to core services. These are services accessible to everyone usually in a self-service capacity. Users are often required to work independently once guided to the appropriate resources. In the five counties served by the Mid-Hudson Library System, satellite locations are mostly libraries, but other community locations such as: community action agencies, chambers of commerce, BOCES, and economic development agencies, also act as satellites in some counties. Satellite locations are referred to by various names, such as "extension centers", and "library workforce centers". Satellite services vary among locations, but at a minimum, they offer a computer workstation with access to helpful career and employment resources with staff available to direct individuals to appropriate resources and support services.

Satellite services generally include:
