When to Recommend Patron to the One-Stop Center

The role of a Library Workforce Center, or satellite site, is to guide patrons to appropriate job, career, and education information. Centers are designed to be self service locations where patrons can work independently when shown the proper resources.

It can be difficult to know when a patron should be sent to the local full-service One-Stop Center. Although there is no one, clear cut indicator of this, the following provides some guidelines:

  • Individual expresses/demonstrates that they don't have appropriate skills for the current labor market.
  • Individual regularly requires direct assistance with job/career related activities (Ex.- creating a resume)
  • Individual keeps revisiting library to perform the same job/career task while seeming to make little progress.

Bottom Line = Library staff should refer patrons to the local One-Stop Center when they have made a concerted effort to help, but feel they cannot assist the patron any further.
