Homeschooling Resources
Tips for Making Kits) |
If you want to recreate some of the homeschooling kits suggested on Adrienne Furness' list, here are some practical tips she shares to make circulation of these kits more efficient.
- Put label listing each item in kit on outside of bag
- Place colored dot on each item in kit & corresponding colored dot next to item on list of contents
- Include circulation staff in decisions on how best to package kits
- Put cost of kit on contents label (to give borrowers sense of expense involved & foster responsibility)
- Include at least one activity book in each kit (activities should relate to kit theme)
- Include some biographies--scientists, historical figures, artists, as appropriate
- Consider working with neighboring libraries to set up rotating collections of kits
- Choose transparent bags for kits but be sure bag materials will withstand weight & abuse of circulation
